One side-effect of the so-called war on terror has been a crisis of liberalism. This is not only a question of alarmingly illiberal legislation but a more general problem of how the liberal state deals with its anti-liberal enemies.

Liberalism is a religion. Its tenets cannot be proved its capacity for waste and destruction demonstrated. But it affords a feeling of spiritual rectitude at little or no cost.

My objection to Liberalism is this that it is the introduction into the practical business of life of the highest kind namely politics of philosophical ideas instead of political principles.

That's what liberalism is all about is promoting incompetence on the basis it's fair because people would be the best if they weren't discriminated against.

Liberalism is a really old British tradition and it has a completely different attitude towards the individual and the relationship between the individual and the state than the collectivist response of Labour and particularly Old Labour does.

Liberalism is an attitude rather than a set of dogmas - an attitude that insists upon questioning all plausible and self-evident propositions seeking not to reject them but to find out what evidence there is to support them rather than their possible alternatives.
